Forest thinning with drones

AirForestry, a new Swedish start-up company made up of 13 employees, unveiled to the public their pioneering technology. A high-capacity drone designed to carry a harvesting tool that grabs the tree from the top and prunes off the branches as it drops down. Saws the thinned tree at the trunk. Then fly the tree to the nearest road for pick-up.

“We have been working in secret for almost two years and already have paying customers among Europe’s largest forest owners. But now it’s time for our public launch. We want to tell you about our concept, which is to thin trees from the air with electric drones “ - Caroline Walerud, co-founder and chairman of Airforestry.  From: https://harvesttech.events/a-6-2m-electric-drone-for-forest-thinning

It’s exhilarating to see the latest advancements within forestry. Integrating modern technology into centuries-old industry has been proving to us that there are more ways we can improve on being stewards of our land and forests.
